The Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988 (or ICAC Act) prescribes the rules relating to the investigation of alleged corruption offences in New South Wales.

The ICAC Act sets out the definition of ‘corrupt conduct’ in New South Wales, the laws and procedures relating to investigations, compulsory examinations and public inquiries and the powers and responsibilities of the ICAC Commissioner and Inspector.

The Act also prescribes a range of obligations relating to public officers and others who fall within the purview of the legislation, and contains several criminal offences relating to corrupt conduct and interfering with the Commission’s objective of establishing facts.
