The three main courthouses are:
Downing Centre Courthouse
The Downing Centre Courthouse is located at 143-147 Liverpool Street, Sydney NSW 2000, which is near Museum Train Station (the Castlereagh Street exit is best), across the road from our head offices and is nestled between Central and Town Hall Railway Stations.
The building itself was previously a department store (Mark Foy’s) and its exterior retains many of its original features.
The Downing Centre is the busiest courthouse in New South Wales, comprising 6 levels of courtrooms – from lower ground floor to level 5.
The lower ground level up to level 2 are District Courts, while levels 4 and 5 are Local Courts.
The courthouse also contains a Drug Court, Legal Aid Offices, Prosecutors Offices, the NSW Chief Magistrate’s Office, Corrections Services and both a Local Court Registry (Level 4) and a District Court Registry (Level 3).
The courthouse normally opens to the public by 9am and court proceedings normally commence at 9.30am.
