Burwood Local Court

Burwood Local Court is located at 7 – 9 Belmore Street, Burwood, which is a short walk up Burwood Road from Burwood Train Station.

There is off-street parking in the streets around the courthouse, as well as parking in the nearby Burwood Plaza.

The courthouse itself has seven courtrooms on two levels, comprising a callover court (where short matters such as adjournments take place), list courts for police cases (which are generally less-serious cases) and DPP cases (which are generally more serious cases) and hearing courts (where defended hearings take place).

All of the courtrooms are local courts, which means they deal with ‘summary cases’ (those which are finalised in the local court) and the early stages of ‘indictable’ and ‘strictly indictable cases’ (which are more serious cases that can be referred to a higher court, or in the case of strictly indictable cases, must be referred to a higher court).

The courthouse services incidents that are alleged to have occurred in Burwood, as well as the surrounding suburbs of Sydney’s inner west.

The court building normally opens at 9am and the courtrooms themselves at 9.30am.
