Sydney’s 22nd Mass Palestinian Rally Foretells of a Coming Political Reckoning: In Photos
Sydney’s pro-Palestinians turned out on Gadigal land for the 22nd week in a row, which is a disgustingly long time for the mass slaughter in Gaza – a catastrophe that’s now fast approaching famine – but it’s also an impressively long time for a such an ongoing mass mobilisation.
This recurring crowd protesting for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire for Gaza shows no weariness in rallying almost half a year on. And while the mainstream might intentionally overlook it, there’s no chance that this mass of the constituency will be ignored come vote time.
Those gathered at the 10th March rally were all well aware that prime minister Anthony Albanese, foreign minister Penny Wong and other key Australian political figures are the subject of an accessory to genocide claim submitted to an International Criminal Court prosecutor.
And in Hyde Park North on Sunday, Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi raised the point that Labor cut funding to UNRWA on 28 January, based on still unsubstantiated Israeli claims. And UNWRA is the main aid channel into Gaza: the site of mass starvation and mass slaughter, with famine coming on.
Sydney Criminal Lawyers was on the ground for the 22nd Palestine Action Group Ceasefire rally to lend its support.
