60 Weeks Palestinian Protest

The 60th consecutive Palestine Action Group rally against the Gaza genocide took place on Gadigal land in Sydney’s Hyde Park North on Sunday, 1 December 2024 and, as is now the usual, the Free Palestine procession created a commanding din as it weaved its way through the CBD streets.

PAG organiser Josh Lees told Sunday’s crowd that despite the Biden administration being on the outers, it has just approved another $680 million worth of weapons to be sent to Israel as it continues to massacre and kill. And he added that the Trump administration will likely follow suit.

Lees’ activism regarding the Gaza genocide has so stood out to the Daily Telegraph that it has labelled him a “serial protester” in respect of it.

Palestinian activist Raneem Emad, whose extended family is in Gaza, told the crowd that the Israeli regime is “ruled by war criminals and is rotten to the core”, and as proof that Israel is a terrorist state, she explained that despite last week’s imposition of a ceasefire between Tel Aviv and Lebanon, Israeli forces haven’t found this reason to actually stop attacking the neighbouring country.

Emad further outlined that it was two years ago to the day that she’d visited Gaza and felt a belonging that she’d never felt before. She added, however, that two years later and she’s now watching the destruction of her ancient homeland.

“I am terrified at what is to come. We are all terrified of what is to come. There is complete starvation in the north of Gaza. No resources have entered for over a month. And the massacres are continuing with full strength,” the Gazan woman said.

Sydney Criminal Lawyers was on the ground on Sunday to show support at the 60th demonstration.
